Why recording the SOKS Symposium?

We decided to record and put on-line the presentations made at the SOKS Symposium – Self-Organising Knowledge Systems 2010 to broaden the impact of the event and reach individuals that could not come. The event aimed at reaching three research communities: Computational Intelligence, Complex Systems and Semantic Web. Which means a lot of individuals are potentially interested, a much larger audience than the ones we made it to Amsterdam. The fact that, almost one year after the event, the videos have been viewed more than 250 times on videolectures proves that this content indeed found a public on the Web. This figure virtually multiply by 5 the number of participants of the Symposium, taking advantage of an almost infinite “afterlife” on-line. We think such an electronic after-life is very important to social gatherings, fortunately this has also became increasingly easier and efficient to do with the progress of telecommunication networks, standards and related web services. Setting online the materials of passed events gives the opportunity to researchers who missed it to still grab some of the content and get in touch with the author(s) of the presentation to establish face-to-face contact if appropriate.
